Doug was born and raised in Tenafly, N.J., a small town in northern Jersey within ½ hour from mid-town Manhattan.  The second son of a psychiatrist and a social worker, Doug developed, at an early age, a set of values that places a premium on the importance of helping people in need.  Those values, combined with a predilection for arguing and competitive edge honed as a recognized high school and college soccer standout, set Doug on a seemingly pre-determined path to becoming a trial attorney.

On that path, Doug developed a strong and acclaimed academic background.  He graduated with High Honor from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.  From there, he graduated with distinction from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, in 1987 at the tender age of 25.  While at McGeorge, he was given the American Jurisprudence Award in two subjects, Torts and Agency, for obtaining the highest grade in each respective subject.  Upon graduating from McGeorge, he was granted membership into the Traynor Society, a scholastic honor organization for academic excellence in the study of law.

Doug’s strong academic background is complimented by the skills he has developed as an attorney exclusively representing injured victims and their families for more than 22 years.  He worked with Mr. Arnold from 1987 to 1993, when the office had no more than four attorneys, before opening his own law practice.  From 1993 through 2008, Doug operated his own law practice specializing in all types of personal injury cases as well as cases against insurance companies,

In 2008, Doug left the life of a small practice to again join forces with Mr. Arnold, whose office had grown to become The Arnold Law Firm with 8 attorneys.  Doug siezed the opportunity to return to work with The Arnold Law Firm because the firm’s continuing growth, assets, capacity, and reputation allows him to work on serious and complex cases that are simply too difficult and expensive for a small office.

While every client’s case is equally important to Doug, there are some cases that have been “highlights” in his career thus far. 

In approximately 1991, a confidential settlement was reached as Doug represented 55 California clients out of an estimated 2500 claims nationwide against Nutri-Systems Weight Loss Centers alleging that their “rapid weight loss program” caused gallbladder disease.  Doug appeared on television for a local television news show that reported the cases in a two-part story that over the course of two nights.

In approximately 1997-98, Doug obtained a $155,000.00 jury verdict on behalf of a client against Wal-Mart in a “slip and fall” case where Wal-Mart appealed the verdict on the grounds that the jury awarded “too much money.”  In a published opinion, Westphal v Wal-Mart (1998) 68 Cal. App 4th 1071, the appellate court upheld the jury verdict and sanctioned Wal-Mart and their attorneys for filing a frivolous appeal.

Now that Doug is back with The Arnold Law Firm, he looks forward to more career “highlights” and success stories with the help of Mr. Arnold, the other attorneys, and the integral and indispensable staff.  He is proud and excited that The Arnold Law Firm is continuing to expand and grow.
